about

Melodica Deathship sail once again for a voyage into the deepest, darkest. 2012 sees the release of a new 5 song EP, 'The Sunken Path'. In the opinion of it's creators, it is a further progression and realisation of the Deathship sound and vision.

Melodica Deathship are a duo of beat producers and word artists who unleash sound currents inspired by sample based boom bap, pre digital dub, the irish folk tradition, analogue electronics, prog rock, stoner rock and post rock. The production aesthetic on 'The Sunken Path' is a significant step forward from the lo-fi / bedroom feel of their previous Lp, 'Doom Your Cities, Doom Your Towns'. The Melodica Deathship sound is now bigger and therefore more at one with the drama of the music.

The themes explored in 'The Sunken Path' are familiar for those versed in the Deathship vision. The collapse of the Irish economy, the suffering of the people at the hands of corrupt government and a remorseless economic elite are explored through lyrics that recall the response of Irish people to these sadly familiar scenarios, the past is presented as a comment on the present. The 'pirate' theme of Melodica Deathship works as a thinly veiled metaphor for a radical anti-authoritarianism and the ultimate integrity of resistance.
